Kirkwood is known for its timeless architecture and historic neighborhoods, and classic hardwood flooring is an essential part of that. But life takes its toll on flooring over time. Fortunately, the experts at Luminous Flooring are here to help!
What Types of Hardwood Damage Can We Fix?
Our team can diagnose and address a variety of issues, including:
- Water damage and cupping: Leaky appliances or seasonal humidity can cause planks to warp or cup. We replace ruined boards, verify subfloor dryness, and restore flat, level surfaces.
- Gaps, cracks, and splits: Missouri’s seasonal humidity shifts cause natural movement. We stabilize shifting boards, repair splits, and fill separation gaps.
- Deep scratches, stains, and gouges: We can buff out surface damage or replace individual planks if buffing won’t cut it.
- Persistent squeaks and loose boards: We secure loose boards down to the joists to eliminate annoying squeaks and spongy spots beneath your feet.

How Our Hardwood Repair Process Works
In just four simple steps, we’ll have your hardwood looking as good as new!
- On-site assessment: We inspect the affected areas, evaluate your subfloor, check moisture levels, and determine whether spot repair, board replacement, or a partial refinish is your most cost-effective option.
- Precision removal: We carefully extract any damaged boards without disturbing the surrounding healthy wood. We ensure the subfloor below is dry, secure, and flat before proceeding.
- Board fastening: New boards are blind-nailed or glued to seamlessly integrate into the surrounding pattern.
- Sand, blend, and finish: We sand the repaired area flat and apply matching stain and sealer, leaving you with an even, continuous surface across the entire room.

In many cases, yes. If the damage is confined to a specific zone (such as beneath a radiator, by a doorway, or where a wall was removed), we can add in replacement boards to match. If the remaining floor has significant finish wear, we may recommend sanding and refinishing the full area after the repair for a completely uniform sheen.
If the moisture has deeply oxidized the tannins in the wood (turning the grain dark gray or black), sanding rarely removes the stain completely. The cleanest, most permanent fix is removing and replacing the affected planks.
We use dust-containment equipment and seal off nearby areas to keep airborne dust down to a minimum. Our technicians clean up thoroughly before completing the job.
